I've spent 12 years in the Financial Services industry and have had the privilege of helping countless people reach their financial goals. I love helping people get a handle on their finances and develop a customized a game plan for them to reach their financial goals!
Far too many times I have met with clients after they had bought an overpriced product from a different 'advisor'. They didn't understand what they bought, yet the advisor received a nice commission from their purchase.
That's why I felt the need to create a place where people could find trusted financial advice. Igniting Financial Freedom is a place where you'll find an unbiased perspective because I'm not getting paid to manage your investments.
For the vast majority of you reading this, your journey to financial freedom does not have to be complicated. There is beauty in simplicity. By making a few simple changes, you can do it yourself and save the money you would have otherwise spent paying another 'expert'.
I'm excited to help you reach your financial goals!
My wife and I have been on our debt payoff journey for quite some time. It's had lots of ups and downs. We started our journey back in 2010 after stockpiling close to $100,000 in debt! (97k to be exact). This consisted of student loans, credit cards, car loans, medical bills, debt consolidation loans, and a home waterproofing loan, we had it all! This wasn't even counting our home mortgage! Needless to say we had quite a hole to dig out of.
We made quite a bit of progress from 2010 through 2013 and paid off $85,000 of our non-mortgage debt. We didn't truly learn how to handle our money, we were just changing our actions without addressing the root behavior. We added three kids to the mess along the way. However, we took our mediocre money habits and decided to buy a new house before we were completely out of debt. We only had 12k left to pay off- we were so close!
Now I'd like to tell you that we moved into our new house, paid off our remaining 12k in debt and rode off into the sunset....Definitely Not! We proceeded to rack up an additional 82,000 in debt! (palm slap to face). This time our debt was some more credit cards, car loans, business loans, and home improvement loans. Clearly we didn't learn our lesson.
At our lowest point, (with our debt balance back up to $92,000, and the monthly payments of almost $2,000 per month to go with it), we were struggling to pay all of our bills. I can remember driving to the supermarket to take back a bag of returnable bottles, and then driving to the ATM to deposit that cash so we could pay our electric bill the next day. Not a proud moment, but definitely one I will NEVER forget.
That was our breaking point. We decided from that point, (Summer of 2014) that we would never put ourselves or our kids in that position again. I decided that I could not continue living irresponsibly with money when I advised my clients every day how to manage their's. It's like I was a weight loss coach who was overweight...So hypocritical. I needed to set the example for them.
Since then we have increased our income by starting several online businesses. We've stuck to a budget and have great communication about our spending. We are on the same page with our long term plans for our money. By the end of 2020 we will be completely debt free! Check back to the BLOG along the remainder of our debt payoff journey! Our behaviors have changed by following a budget, open communication about our money, and an understanding that we are in control of our money- not the other way around.
I've created this site as a source of inspiration and advice on how to travel through your debt payoff journey. I believe that my 12 years of experience in the Financial Services industry and our journey of paying of $85,000 the first time, and soon to be $92,000 the second time, we're uniquely qualified to give you guidance as you Ignite Financial Freedom.
